Have you ever stopped to observe wildlife on a walk?

Have you ever stopped to take the time and watch other creatures and compare them to us? If you get a chance try and study some daily task of animals, it could be something as simple as an insect or even squirrel . Watch what they do with their day and compare it with the task that we fill our days with.

I don't ever see them filling there day with nonsense activities, everything they do has a purpose for survival. I see that we as humans waste lots of time doing activities that do not get us anywhere in life but instead just keeps us in the same spot spinning our wheels.

Most animals tend to spend a majority of their day gathering supplies such as food and items to improve their shelters. They ensure that they spend plenty of social time with other members of their family. As to most humans tend to over spend money on many items that are not truly needed and take for granted that they have family that would like to spend time with them. We could learn a lot from observing the characteristics of wildlife.

Don't ever take anything for granted, for what you have today could be gone tomorrow. I have learned this lesson the hard way and wish that I would have paid more attention to how other creatures in the wild have followed this old tradition that we use too. Maybe if I had then I would have ensured that I would have spent more time with a few of my family members that have now passed away.

I think with the constant growing technology that we all have become dependent on such as cellphones, cars, washer and dryers, oh and we can't forget one of the biggest ones of them all, the television. These type of technology is what has pulled families apart over the years and has allowed us to lose the family bonds that we once used to have.

I have observed a family of squirrels and see that they spend there time consistently bonding with there family. They are teaching their young what it takes to survive in life and by doing so they are creating a strong family bond. I notice more and more nowadays we as humans tend to just set our children in front of the television instead of spending time with them bonding and teaching them the way of life. Of course this is what we were taught, the times of close family bonding are over unless we start doing something now.

Please let me know what your opinions are, and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Another relaxing day in mother nature.

When work is getting the best of you I find a day in natural surroundings of mother nature is a great way to escape and let all the worries fade away. So on August 16Th I grabbed my camel pack filled with water and energy bars and decided to hit the trail and relaxed in a natural hot springs for part of the day.

Being surrounded by beautiful trees and the sound of the water running is a great way to relax the mind. After a few hours of soaking I was ready to go back to the rat race. But before I could go I had to help with the clean up of hour beautiful land. I spent an hour or so cleaning up the area around the hot springs and the trails I hiked up on. I was able to remove two decent size trash bags full of trash out of the woods.

I don't understand how so many people could just throw things down and walk away. I would like to take this moment and thank all who are reading this and participate on keeping our lands clean. I think if we could get the simple task of pack it in then pack it out across to more people than we could enjoy the outdoors so much more.

Twin Lakes Hiking Trip

I thought that I would share my backpacking trip to the Twin Lakes in Portland Oregon territory and tell you a little bit about the trip that I took this year.

We started out the evening of the 26Th of June around 4:30 PM from the trail head parking lot. We hiked in 1.5 miles to the hot springs and decided to enjoy a part of mother nature and soak for a bit. We then continued to hike and find a camp site for our first night on the trail. We setup camp around 8:30 PM in a little site we found next to Ashley Creek.

It was getting dark out and we still had to setup camp, but with the use of my new Petzl Tikka Plus LED Headlamp and my new Gerber Gorge Folding Shovel made for a much easier task of clearing a level site for my tent. Once we were able to get our camp site setup we sat down and ate dinner and enjoyed each others company around a camp fire until 1:00 AM which made for a very short night of sleep.

On the morning of the 27Th of June we broke camp and headed out on the trail around 9:00 AM. We hiked into Silver King Lake arriving around 1:30 PM for some fishing activity. We caught some nice brook trout and had them for lunch. We departed the lake around 5:00 PM and headed towards Twin Lakes.

We arrived at Twin lakes around 8:00 PM. We quickly setup camp and got some fishing in before it got dark. We had a great dinner that night with the brook trout we all caught. We sat around our camp fire talking until at least 2:30 AM while knowing that we had to get up early to break camp for our trip back.

The morning of the 28Th, the day we all did not want to come was the time for the trip back. We broke camp and started our trip back at 10:15 AM. We stopped and had lunch around 3:30 PM in a nice camp site with great canopy cover that was provided by the tall trees. After lunch we hiked back to the springs and soaked again before heading back down to the trail head. We returned to the trail head around 8:00 PM and loaded our vehicle up and departed around 8:30 PM.

This hike was approximately 21 miles round trip.....
